Lady Bulldogs Has Three Named to All-Tournament Team
Tougaloo, Miss. - The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference announced the All-Tournament Team following the conclusion of the 2017 Volleyball Championship. Tougaloo had three named to the All-Tournament Team; Carolyne Edwards, Kayla Cole and Obadiah Montgomery.
Carolyne Edwards has been a powerhouse for the Lady Bulldogs this season. The 1st team All-Conference selection had 13 kills in the quarterfinal game against Talladega and 10 kills in the semifinal loss to Dillard. On the season, Edwards finished 4th in the conference in total kills with 291 kills and 8th in kills per set at 2.5 kills.
Kayla Cole is no surprise to the All-Tournament team as she has led the Lady Bulldogs and the GCAC in digs all season. In the quarterfinal win over Talladega, Cole recorded 29 digs. In the semifial loss against Dillard, she recorded 14 digs. On the season, Cole led the GCAC in digs per set with 5.4 digs and finished 2nd in total digs with 606 digs. She was named the 2017 Defender of the Year and a 2nd team All-Conference selection.
Obadiah Montgomery has been a beast at the net for the Lady Bulldogs all season. In the quarterfnal win with Talladega, Montgomery had a total of 6 blocks (2 solo and 4 assists) and in the semifinal game with Dillard she had 3 total blocks (1 solo and 2 assists). On the season, Montgomery led the conference in blocks with 115 blocks and blocks per set with 1.0 blocks.
