Lady Bulldogs Completes Season Sweep of Philander
Tougaloo, Miss.-After a tough road loss to Talladega College on Monday night, the Lady Bulldogs were looking to get back on the winning side of things with a win over Philander Smith. The Lady Bulldogs completed a season sweep of the Lady Panthers with the 3-1 victory to improve to 4-3 in conference play.
With the season being at the midway point, the Lady Bulldogs are starting to realize they have a strong chance to do something that has never been done before, win a conference championship. The Lady Bulldogs played one of their best games as they took care of Philander Smith in four sets. The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first set before allowing the Lady Panthers to score. The Lady Panthers put up a good fight, but the Lady Bulldogs proved to be too much for the Lady Panthers. The Lady Bulldogs went on to win set two as well. The Lady Panthers escaped with a tough third set win before the Lady Bulldogs put the Lady Panthers away with a 25-8 fourth set victory.
Jessica Porter led the Lady Bulldogs with 9 kills. Carolyne Edwards followed with 6 kills and Bryanna Newson had 5 kills. Kayla Cole led the defense with 14 digs, Porter followed with 11 digs and Kristin Rice had a career high 4 solo blocks and 3 block assists. Alexandra Jwainat added 18 assists for the Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday as they host Dillard University for their Think Pink Game. Game time is set for 1:00 P.M. in the Dawg Pound.
