Lady Bulldogs Prevail in Season Sweep of EWC
Tougaloo, Miss.-Despite losing two straight conference matches, the Lady Bulldogs bounced back against Edward Waters to complete a season sweep of the Lady Tigers. The Lady Bulldogs prevailed over the Lady Tigers 3-2 (25-17, 25-19, 19-25, 20-25, 15-9) to advance to 3-2 in conference play.
After losing two straight conference match-ups to Xavier University and Southern University of New Orleans, the Lady Bulldogs desperately needed a win to bounce back on the winning side. The Lady Bulldogs jumped out early on the Lady Tigers, winning both sets one and two with ease. However, as expected, the Lady Tigers did not lay down and they fought their way back into the match with third and fourth set wins to take the match into a deciding set.
The deciding set went back and forth with the two teams, but the Lady Bulldogs took off after gaining a 8-6 lead to win the set 15-9 and the match 3-2. The win advanced the Lady Bulldogs to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the GCAC. The Lady Bulldogs opened the season with a 3-2 win over the Lady Tigers in Jacksonville, FL.
Carolyne Edwards led the Lady Bulldogs on offense with 15 kills. Freshman Bryanna Newson stepped up to follow Edwards with 9 kills, and Taylor Kangethe added 8 kills. On the defensive side, Jessica Porter led the Lady Bulldogs with 19 digs. Kayla Cole followed with 18 digs and Kristin Rice had a season-high 5 block assists. Alexandra Jwainat had 25 assists.
The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Monday, September 26th as they travel to Talladega, AL to take on Talladega College in conference play.
