MORGAN, BROWN, AND FERGUSON EARN HBCUAC POSTSEASON HONORS
Three members of the Tougaloo College women's basketball team earned major postseason recognition from the HBCU Athletic Conference for their outstanding performances during the 2026 season.
Shalayne Morgan was named the 2026 HBCUAC Newcomer of the Year and earned a spot on the All-HBCUAC Second Team, while Makaila Brown was selected as the 2026 HBCUAC Defensive Player of the Year and named to the All-Defensive Team. Brayland Ferguson also received defensive honors, earning a place on the HBCUAC All-Defensive Team.
Morgan made an immediate impact in her first season with the Bulldogs, emerging as one of the conference's top scorers. She ranked fifth in the HBCUAC in scoring with 16.4 points per game and finished fourth in the conference in free throw percentage at 78 percent. Her consistent play throughout the season earned her four HBCUAC Newcomer of the Week selections, highlighting her strong debut campaign.
Brown anchored Tougaloo's defense all season and was recognized as the league's top defensive player. She led the conference in blocks with 2.9 blocks per game and ranked third in the HBCUAC in rebounding with 11.5 rebounds per game. Brown was named HBCUAC Defensive Player of the Week three times during the season and earned her second consecutive selection to the HBCUAC All-Defensive Team, further solidifying her reputation as one of the conference's premier defensive forces.
Ferguson also played a key role in the Bulldogs' defensive efforts, dominating on the glass throughout the season. She averaged 11.8 rebounds per game, which ranked second in the conference, and earned HBCUAC Defensive Player of the Week honors once this season. Ferguson's defensive prowess has been recognized previously, as she was also named to the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference All-Defensive Team in 2024.
The trio's postseason honors reflect the strength and depth of the Bulldogs' roster and highlight the impact they made during the 2026 season. Their performances helped lead Tougaloo to a competitive season in the HBCU Athletic Conference while continuing to build the program's reputation for excellence on both ends of the court.
