WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULED RELEASED
TOUGALOO, Miss.- Tougaloo College women's basketball coach Yolanda Cartlidge has announced the team's 2015-16 basketball schedule.
"I'm looking forward to getting the season started," said Cartlidge. "We have a very challenging schedule that includes a number of NCAA Division I programs. We want to be prepared for conference play, we know the GCAC is going to be tough this year because it's tough every year. But we're excited about the players we're bringing back and about the new ones that we've added."
The Lady Bulldogs open the season on the road against William Carey on Nov. 3 in Hattiesburg, Miss. Tougaloo went 0-2 against the Lady Crusaders last season.
Tougaloo remains on the road for Alcorn State (Nov. 12), Mississippi College (Nov. 23), The Memphis HBCU Classic (Nov. 27 and 28), and LSU-Shreveport (Nov. 30) before the home opener on Dec. 3 against William Carey and celebrating FCA/Champions of Character Day.
After a trip to Baton Rouge, La. to face Southern University on Dec. 14 the Lady Bulldogs open conference play on Jan. 2 against the Dillard Lady Bleu Devils in The Dawg Pound.
Tougaloo takes trips to Talladega (Jan. 9), Edward Waters (Jan. 11), and Xavier (La.) (Jan. 18) before a two game homestand against Campbellsville on Jan. 23 and SUNO (Jan. 25). The SUNO contest marks Athletic Booster Club Day at Tougaloo.
January turns to February with road games against Dillard (Jan. 30) and Philander Smith (Feb. 1).
Tougaloo follows with its longest home stand of the season with four games starting with Cumberland on Feb. 6, followed by Talladega (Feb. 8), Rust (Feb. 11), and Edward Waters (Feb. 15).
After going back to New Orleas for the road finale against SUNO (Feb. 20), the Lady Bulldogs close the year at home against Xavier (Feb. 22) and on Homecoming/Senior Night against Philander Smith (Feb. 27).
Last season Tougaloo finished 4-24 overall, with all four wins coming in GCAC play. Leading the returnees is last season's GCAC Freshman of the Year Montoria Atkinson. Atkinson was the only player in the GCAC to average a double-double with 14.6 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.
