TOUGALOO'S KEARNEY RECEIVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Tougaloo, MS-The national office of the NAIA announced its national players of the week on yesterday. Tougaloo's Chasity Kearney was named Division I Women's Basketball National Player of the Week for her performances from Jan. 20-26 and was chosen out of a pool of conference and independent award winners.
Kearney, a native of South Panola, Miss., recorded her 11th and 12th double-doubles of the season last week. In the Lady Bulldogs' 86-47 victory over Fisk on Jan. 20, Kearney scored a game-high 25 points on 11-of-18 shooting and grabbed a game-high 15 boards. On Jan. 25, in Tougaloo's 79-77 loss to SUNO, Kearney grabbed 20 rebounds—for the third time this season—and also led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 29 points. For the week, Kearney averaged 27 points and 17.5 rebounds per game.
On the season, Kearney leads the Lady Bulldogs in rebounds per game (12.94) and ranks second on the team in points per game (19.47), blocks (20) and steals (27). Kearney leads the nation in total rebounds per game (12.94) and also ranks among the top 10 in the NAIA in defensive rebounds per game (3rd, 8.12), offensive rebounds per game (5th, 4.82) and total rebounds (8th, 220).
