BLUNT, JONES RECEIVE GCAC RUNNERS OF THE WEEK
Tougaloo, MS-The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference recently announced its Men's & Women's Cross Country Runners of the Week for the week ending September 30, 2012. Tougaloo's Brianna Blunt and Nicolos Jones received both the Men's and Women's Runners of the Week.
Blunt, a 5'8 senior from Jackson, MS, is in her second year with the Lady Bulldogs' Cross Country Team. She is a transfer from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Blunt was a 2011 GCAC All-Conference selection last season for her impressive finish in the GCAC Conference meet, as she finished 8th. On this past Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs participated in an invitational meet hosted by Mississippi Valley State University. Of the 24 runners listed as finishing the race, Blunt finished 7th in the 5k run with a time of 20:56.
Jones, a 5'10 freshman from Itta Bena, MS, is in his first year with the Bulldogs' Cross Country Team. He is a transfer from Mississippi Valley State University. In high school, Jones put up some impressive times, which landed him scholarships to MVSU and now Tougaloo. On this past Saturday, the Bulldogs participated in an invitational meet hosted by his former school (MVSU). of the 22 runners listed finishing the race, Jones finished 9th in the 4 mile run with a time of 24:56.
Jones and Blunt will be back in action on Friday as the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs participate in the Watson Ford Invitational Meet hosted by Mississippi College. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:30 P.M. at Choctaw Trails in Clinton, MS.
