WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS
Little Rock, Ark. - After a first round bye and two games later, the Bulldogs have claimed the 2022 GCAC Tournament Championship. This is the Bulldogs' first tournament title since 2019 when the Bulldogs captured both the regular season and tournament titles.
After the first round bye, the Bulldogs faced Edward Waters University in the semifinals of the GCAC Tournament. In the Tigers' finale in the GCAC, the Bulldogs defeated the Tigers 69-64 to advance to the championship game. Cameron Copeland led the Bulldogs with 14 points. Antwan Beans, Cameron Woodall and Trajan Fielder all followed with 11 points and Darryl Jones added 10 points.
In the championship game, the Bulldogs faced off against Philander Smith College. In the regular season, the Bulldogs fell short in both meetings with the Panthers and they both share the GCAC Regular Season Championship, but as the saying goes, it is hard to beat a team three times and the Bulldogs proved this statement to be true as the revenge over the Panthers was sweet in a 59-55 victory to claim the tournament championship. Cameron Copeland led the Bulldogs with 19 points. Darryl Jones and Trajan Fielder followed with 11 points and Antwan Beans added 10 points for the Bulldogs.
Copeland was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Both Antwan Beans and Darryl Jones were named to the All-Tournament Team.
