Bulldogs Hold Off SUNO in Conference Opener
Tougaloo, Miss. - The Bulldogs fought off the Knights of Southern University of New Orleans to pick up a 103-86 victory in their conference opener tonight in the Dawg Pound.
The Bulldogs shot 53% from the field and 40% from behind the 3-point line to down the Knights of SUNO. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead; leading by as many as 15 before the Knights came charging back to chip away at that lead. At halftime, the Bulldogs led the Knights 48-41. In the second half, the Bulldogs proved to be too much as they outscored the Knights 55-44 to take the win and improve to 8-3, 1-0 on the season.
For the second consecutive game, the Bulldogs were led by Derrick Ashley with 28 points. Tonzell Handy followed with 24 points and a career-high 21 rebounds. Carlo McDonald tacked in 16 points, Jadarius Haymer chipped in 14 points and Denarius Odell added 13 points and 10 assists. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday for the Game of the Week as they host Xavier University. Tip-off is set for 5:00 P.M. in the Dawg Pound.
