Bulldogs Fall in Double OT to USM
Hattiesburg, Miss. - The Tougaloo Bulldogs traveled to Hattiesburg to take on the University of Southern Mississippi in its first ever meeting in over ten years. The Bulldogs almost upset the Golden Eagles, but fell short in double overtime 101-96 to fall to 1-1 on the young season.
After trailing 40-36 at halftime, the Bulldogs returned in the second half with a vengeance. The Bulldogs made a late run to take a late lead before the Golden Eagles tying the ball game to take the game into overtime. The Bulldogs were determined to win and their level of play showed it. The Bulldogs took an early lead on the Golden Eagles in the first overtime before the Golden Eagles came bouncing back. With less than :05 remaining in overtime and the Bulldogs up by 2, it looked as if the Bulldogs would have the upset victory in the bag, but as time expired off the clock, there was a foul called to put the Golden Eagles at the line. The Golden Eagles made both free throws to take the game into double overtime.
With all starters but one fouled out, the Bulldogs relied on the bench to finish the game, but the Golden Eagles held on to take the 101-96 double OT win over the Bulldogs. Christopher Wallace led all scorers with 31 points. Andravious Smith followed with 18 points and Jarmell Anderson and Denarius Odell chipped in 16 points apiece. The Bulldogs will be back in action on November 15th as they are back on the road to travel to Memphis, TN to play LeMoyne Owen College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 P.M.
